5 Things I Tell ALL of My Patients

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a medical system rooted in thousands of years of wisdom from all over East Asia. While this system is highly individualized, there are a few things that are universal!

Drink Room Temperature Water

Cold and icy beverages are said to hinder digestive function by constricting Qi flow and slowing the process of transforming and transporting nutrients from food.

Protect Your Neck

The back of the neck should be covered from cold temperatures and wind to prevent illness according to TCM.

Eat Peacefully

When our nervous system is in sympathetic mode (fight or flight), our body digests food less optimally. Avoid stimulating or stressful distractions like phone scrolling, work and TV while eating to promote parasympathetic function (rest and digest).

Move Your Body

If we don't move our body our Qi becomes stagnant. Qi stagnation can be responsible for a number of conditions in Chinese Medicine, including, irritability, pain, and poor digestion.

Cook Your Food

Raw foods like salads and smoothies are considered to be "cold" foods and should be consumed in moderation. Warm, cooked foods are easier on digestive functions and can help with irregular bowel movements and abdominal pain.
